Yeah, unfortunately the atmosphere on that other site tends to lean in that direction most of the time. I'm fairly certain that that was definitely part of what prompted Jeff to create this community - and thats also the reason many kingsnake users have migrated over here and never looked back. I often wonder why all those people still continue to post on that site if they are just going to jump to conclusions and down peoples throats everytime they get asked a question. If they are sick of hearing the same "stupid" questions, then why don't they jsut take a break? I know if I didn't want to help people I wouldn't be posting. Good luck with your situation Mike, hope your luck turns around

I saw your posts on ************** and if you want my opininion i really think that by posting that on ************** and here, you just lost ALOT of business. I am only speaking for myself but you have just told me that your snakes are starving and you cant afford to feed them. So me as a potential customer is defenatly not going to buy a starving snake or one that is being starved. Also, asking for free feeders etc would be fine if you were a rescue or free zoo or something but you are a retailer of animals. If McDonalds runs out of beef they dont ask Wendys or Burger King to supply them with free meat. So by posting on kingsnake you really just lost customers who would have bought snakes but wont now because they are being starved and in return you lost money that could have been used to feed the snakes you have. Thats just my 0.2cents.

A snake that misses a meal or two is far from starving.

In case you havent noticed, but the entire world is having an economic downturn right now and all businesses are hurting. He could have "liquidated" part of his collection to make it easier. Instead, he goes to the other place and asks his peers for help. These are the people who should understand the most but he is attacked for it. It took alot of guts for him to do that and it shows he truely cares about the animals and it's not just a business. Most breeders do not make money doing this. They do it for the love of the animals and not love of money. They would do something else if it was about money.

I personally would buy an animal from him because based on his posts he has displayed he has knowledge of and a general understanding of the animals and more importantly he cares. The only thing that would prevent me is the cost. Could you believe the shipping and import costs coming from Nova Scotia to Arizona?

Anyways, good luck B.M.

Oh he is a breeder?? I was under the impression that he was a importer / exporter. If he is a breeder then its a completly differant scenario, sorry about that. A importer / exporter brings in wild caught animals for resale which is to make money from the hobby. Sorry i got it mixed up.

Hey, by the way, MSinister, I don't think you read his original post properly... there was no way he could have predicted his situation, and it just so happened he got struck by bad luck. I'm sure if you've ever had that happen, you can appreciate his situation... and if you haven't, then I say until then you don't have a right to judge how his animals are treated. You don't know what conditions they're in and have no proof that his animals are by anymeans mistreated or starving or anything of the sort. As dead bob said, a snake that misses a meal or two is far from starving. We've only heard good things about him anyway, so why are you making assumptions? If you ever need help and need someone to turn to, you'd turn to your family and friends for help, wouldn't you? Well personally I think it's great that he can turn to people like those on this board who have so generously offered to help.

It's amazing that so many people can trusted to help in a time of need, and I don't think you should be trying to make him feel bad. I should hope that his kind of bad luck would not come across anybody, but if it does it's comforting to know there's so many people to count on.

I'm so proud! lol

Well i was just on his site and i dont think he breeds anything, it looks like he is a importer, so if he needed money that badly, im sure he could sell some of his snakes at cost or just above cost and i am sure people would buy them quickly if he sold them cheap enough and he still wouldnt take a loss. Just a few things to think about before asking for charity... Like you guys said if a snake misses a few meals, its not going to hurt it, so i think if he reduced some of his prices to just above his cost to move some animals to make some money for feeding it would be better then asking people to send him feeders. If the snakes ate last week they dont need to eat again for another 2, so there is plenty of time to reduce your prices and make some quick sales to purchase more feeders. This is just what i would do if i was in this situation. I am not knocking him, i have had bad times aswell, like everyone has, i am just offering him some solutions to his problem.

I mean if he has 600 snakes, im sure he can afford to liquidate some at cost to make money for feeders. With 600 snakes in his possession he is alot more well off then the people who are offering to donate feeders to him for free. Boa Mania, sell off some animals at cost brother, people will definatly buy them. Its good that people are willing to help you, but there are ways to help yourself, without having to take anything from others. There could be a time when you need their help alot more then now, when you have alot of options to make money quickly.

I would

Just like to point out that no matter what Boa Mania does for business....he NEVER said his snakes were starving. In fact he said it had been a week I believe. And if you think *any* snake, especially an adult is starving after a week it looks like you have more to learn than he. If push came to shove and times were bad I would have no problems making my adult snakes wait even 14 days to eat. It does not hurt them in any way, and a lot of keepers do this on purpose I have heard. (3 months once per week, then a couple weeks off)

He was asking for help. If that means you don't want to buy snakes from him, I am sure he doesn't mind. When it comes to asking for help its hard enough without people claming you are starving your snakes and won't buy from you. Time are hard now for everyone and will be much harder in the future.

I agree, Marisa, nobody should be trying to make him feel bad, there's no point to it! But I think at least now MSinister realized he was mistaken and is trying to offer suggestions... but I still stick by that we should just wait and see how Boa maniac is doing!!! (We all ... most of us I guess... hope you're back on track, boa!!! GOOD LUCK! )

SOrry guys, but all i am trying to say is its awfull to take things from people who are worse off then you are. The guys has 600 snakes in his possession and is without feeders. So someone who has a collection of 10 and pays full price for there feeders is supposed to give him feeders for free, when he has 600 snakes he could sell at cost and pay for his own??? I am all for helping people but charity when you run a business should be a last resort. When a business needs money they have a "sale" to bring in income. Im not trying to ruffle any feathers here, i love this site as much as the rest of you, the forums are for expressing opinions and my opinion is that a business should not take charity from people when they have "600" other ways to make money.
