Anyone know where one could find.......

Mexican/Jamaican fruit bats. Interested also in Pteropus giganteus (giant indian fruit bat) Before immersing myself in the entire chiroptera order, I figure it'd be best to start off with the simplest ssp. A price estimate would also be greatly appreciated. Also origin (ie. CB, WC, etc.) and health history if available (rabies shots- most likely due to paranoia, etc.) Thanks, not herp related but I hope someone can help.

This is the closest I could find for you. Don't know if it would help or not.

Yes, Hippos. You can get almost any animal you want that isn't restricted. I beleive he has 2 kinds of hippos listed. where the average canadian would keep one is beyond me, as they're not North American House Hippos.

Here you go Charles

http://www.wildlifedecisionsupport.c...05_maritz.html

Look at the fifth bullet at the top of the caresheet:
"Has faeces that are normally very liquid."

I don't think it would make a good lap animal.

Here's another caresheet:

Excerpts:
a) Choose a happy hippo but avoid lively hippos at all costs.
b) Hippos can rarely be convinced to use a litter tray and finding one large enough can be a problem; this coupled with the male hippos tendency to mark its territory by flicking its dung around with its tail, means it is best to try and persuade your hippo to leave the house when it needs to.
c) Don't bother to try to take your pet hippo for walks.

That site is ful of useful tips :

Your ideal baby hippo should be smaller than its mother

Hippos exude a pink goo to keep their skins from drying out when they leave the water so look for a good gooey baby.

A hippo is for life, not just for Christmas !!

Now just to find a good supplier of Lucerine Hay

Thanks
Charles
