Question constipated bt skink

Hi! My name is Liz and I'm a new mom to "Foster", a blue tongue skink. I'm getting really worried about him because he hasn't had a bowel movement in several days. Usually, all it takes is taking him out of his tank and letting him roam around...and next thing you know...he's pooped! However, this isn't working anymore and I'm freaking out. I've been reading posts elsewhere and have read that warm baths might work. I've also read that giving him a drop of mineral oil might help. I hope someone can help!

Thanks!

Well, how much is he eating right now? My BTS has been active for over a month now but still is not eating his normal amount. Around spring they don't seem to be much interested in food. Could that be the problem? How long have you had him?

Re: constipated bt skink

Thanks for the reply! I've only had him for a month...I inherited him from my brother after years of bugging him about it! I ended up trying the warm bath and it worked like a charm! He eats daily (kale, boiled carrots, and other veggies w/ the occasional bunch of crickets are his favorites) and has an awesome appetite! I can barely get it in his tank before he storms the bowl! I'm still learning about everything they need. I feed him about 2 tablespoons a day. Is that ok? Please give me any advice!!!! I would really appreciate anything you have to share!

Thanks again,
Liz

Actually, a couple of tablespoons every day is a lot for an adult BTS. Most adults eat only a couple of times a week, a tablespoon or two per feeding. It sounds as if he is doing great with veggies, but that he could use more protein in his diet. I'd say a BTS should have 50-60% protein in their diet. Maybe that is why he is hungry enough to eat daily, because he's getting mostly veggies. I'm also surprised he eats crickets! My BTS won't eat them because they are too small and fast. Anyway, try more protein. You can try nightcrawlers and superworms, boiled or plain baked chicken breast, high quality low fat canned cat food, an occassional hard boiled egg. Give him some protein and veggies at every meal.
