Shipping

How would I go about having shortheaded gartersnakes shipped to Ontario from the US?

Thank You
Cam Hanna

The easiest way would probably be to have them shipped to someone you know in the US near the border. Then drive down and pick them up.

I've had snakes shipped to the post office in Grand Forks which is only 1.5 hours from my city.

Tim does that mean it would be okay for me to drive down to Fargo,ND and buy reptiles there and then bring them across the border by car?

It depends if they are CITES listed animals or not. What species are you thinking of?

I called the border a head of time and asked what they would want to see when I came back into Canada. I brought several books with pictures of the snakes to ID them and then they looked them up in some HUGE book to see if they were ok. It was that easy... at least that time it was. I was just bring some kingsnakes over though and I haven't tried it again since.

It would be a different ball game if you were flying. More difficult, in fact.

There are no permits or anything required to bring non-cites snakes back?? You can just drive back and still be legal?

Well, I just told you how I did it. I'm not saying that is the "rule". Call your closest border crossing and ask them. It might be that easy for you too. Though I could see it being up to whoever is on dudty at the time.

I'm posting a new board to clarify this and see if it's true..... I need to know because we are coming back from florida next week and were told we could bring anything non-cites over without paperwork..... we just have to declare it....

I hope this is true, but if it's not, we'll be in trouble!

Justin, I think it IS true, I just don't want to say it with too much confidence because I could be wrong in certain instances.

Justin, If you happen to find a big albino Texas Ratsnake could you bring it back for me? I'm looking for one around the $75 CDN range. Male or female...or a pair for about $150 CDN...If they have babies then $50 CDN. I live about 2h from the Peoples Republic of Scarborough (LOL) so it shouldn't take me to long to pick them up. Let me know if your up for it. I've been looking around Canada but can't seem to find one.
