Ya, there were quite a few vendors that didn't show, made it look bare in there. It would've been nice if they emailed Nadia, so she could've moved things around ahead of time, helping in it not look so bare...

Sam,

Oh so you think that me and my brother is a little clown and think that we are funny now.....LOL....j/k.

It was great meeting you man~! Your leos looked great! If I were really getting out of the leos, I might have gotten something off you. They were really pretty in my opinion and it kind of surprised me that you didn't get to sell that much.

I do agree that some vendors not showing up made the show a little bare......it would be better if I had a better table....cause basically I was at the corner and didn't really have much space in putting my things out....no one would have walked to the corner of my table....

But overall speaking it was a great show. Got to meet a lot of vendors and see a lot of 'old' vendors. The best part was talking to them. Talking to Sam, Rob, the Gillards (who sat right beside us) and other vendors were just great!! Brings in a lot of fun and time went by faster talking with herp people...

This was the first show, so it could be better. I bet that even the first pcpc show wasn't perfect or the turn out rate wasn't superb. There are always room for imporvement. I think that this show's has some basic things to 'change'. IMHO 1) Get more publicized, as we can see from these posts not a lot of people knew about this show. 2) Better location (at least with the right direction signs...as mentioned before it was quite hard finding the place (especially for people who weren't from that area....I missed it for sure....) 3) I too thought that the auction thing wasn't that good of an idea. I know that would get a few sales out....but to be honest...its nothing much of a different than ruining the market price. A lot of vendors drove a long way to the show...hoping to do a few sales that would at least cover the gas money and the table money....but with others auctioning things away it is pretty hard to sale animals out. Also the mic was really loud.....I was trying to talk to the vendor next to me....and we had a hard time trying to talk over the mic....so I wasn't that happy with the auction thing either.

But all in all, I thought that it was a great show (even though I didn't do well...).

I would say "Give yourself a pat on the back Nadia" Good job trying to make a good show~~

I wish that I could have gone, I live really close. I had something important to do that day. I knew about the show months ago, I'm surprised that most people didn't see the banner. I saw ads and such. Someone posted about it here as well. I really hope that there is another in the future.

I guess you're not the only one that's surprised Simon..lol...I guess high quality leopard geckos don't have much of a market here in Canada, that's why we're quickly working on being able to ship worldwide within a few short weeks-couple months.
I find that not many Canadians tend to support the higher end Canadian reptile breeders, and will still look for the "same" stuff from the States...which is fine i guess.

It was great meeting you though buddy, as I mentioned earlier, and its great to know how close and friendly the reptile community really is.

See you at the pcpc show buddy! Hopefully that'll be incredibly busy, which i'm sure it'll be. Everybody will be back from their vacations by then.

That is the ONLY way to make money in Canada. If you're gonna wait for Canadian sales for anything hi-end, you'll be waiting a LONG LONG time. You are making a very smart move to be able to ship internationally. You WON'T regret it, trust me.

I really appreciate that comment Jeff! Funny enough, i'm actually reading up on the US Fish and Wildlife Permit and all that's involved with it. We'll see how it goes.
Thanks again,

As for some people actually getting mad at mark for auctioning, from what i understand people thought HE was getting something out of it, and this is totally false. He was just being asked to do it, and he figured hey no one is really selling to much (just my assumption).

And that stupid burm bit me lol but yea what im saying is we would have known not to sell to a little kid or anything..plus their was no one their to even sell it to other then vendors who already know how big this things going to get.

If their is an impulse buyer who wants a burm, hes going to get it for etierh 100 or 50 and still realize he ended up with a big arse snake. Maybe if it was sold for a dollar, anyone would throw it in and take it, but 50 is somewhat of a decision to make.

Anyway i liked the show..very slow..but met a bunch of people and im slowly making my way into the reptile crowd lol
YO! WHO'S SNAKE YOU CALLING STUPID? lol!! so you where the dude with the sick ball python eh? i wanted that thing bad! oh well... anyways, I got the burm and knew damn well what i was getting myself into.. i have many snakes... i was interested in getting one actually before the auction came on and when it did, i knew it was my mine! hehe... anyways, the show was great in the sense that i met lots of reptile peeps and vendors, many of whom where real chill and funny... out of ALL my friends, i'm the only one into reptiles and my boy that came with me (the other bald dude) just came cause i needed a ride and to chill, no real interest in herps... most my friends are into completely different scenes.. i also didn't mind the auctions and the dude who was on the mic (real jokes by the way!) wasn't making any profit what so ever.. if your reading this, dude on the mic, i want some cresties! i think the auctions made it fun... i agree it was a kick in the face to those who breed things like the ones being sold like crazy but that's life... i'm also slowly creeping into the reptile community and one day i'll be running it! haha.. just playing.... or am i?:medwierd: lol... naw, seriously, it was straight jokes at the expo and i had a lot of fun... those are my 2 favorite things, fun and reptiles! well, i forgot one more, mami's ... i swear that burm i got is the meanest thing i've ever seen in my life! (worse then any of the 8-9 ATB's i've owned!) the thing starts striking left and right while i'm at the other end of the room... it has a respatory infection or something but i'm in the process of curing it and it seems to be getting better, if not, off to the vet i go (for free, hehe).. i think it's a cold of sorts... anyways, it was great meeting all the vendors there and i hope to see you all again...

ps. bartman, you now have a few scars to remember me by for not selling me that ball python! :hammer:

also, i mentioned i had the burm so people will relax and not worry about the animal... i love my herps and spoil them so don't worry... (turns head to reptile rack with 5 foot snakes crammed into small rubbermaids and snickers) lol.. just playing.. i have a whole room dedicated to my many pets... alright, enough with the jokes.. time to be serious.. also, i wanted to mention that the burm did not have this "cold" when i got it and seemed to have got it later that day or the day after as that's when i noticed it.. the dude that sold it to me was chill and a responsible breeder... i need sleep...

Personally, whether auctioned or not, I don't like the idea of baby burms being sold at any show, especially one sponsored by reptile rescue! Why not baby green iguanas, too, just to make it complete???

I was quite surprised to see baby burms and retics there. Does anyone have any idea what Newmarket's by-laws are?

i have no idea what the by laws are but at least now you know the burm went to good hands, wether right or wrong that it was auctioned, so no more stressing... i personally couldn't care less because i got me a burm that i'm going to care for until it's a couple feet and then sell to my buddy who's been looking for one for a while now, it's been aranged... for now, i get to keep it and go thru the fun of taming the thing... there's been too much bickering about the expo when in fact it's the first time and i bet the second will be a lot better... still, though, i think the auctions made it fun.. it gave it a twist...

Ok everyone just so everyone is straight about the Silent auction and the auction that went on with the live animals. The proceeds for the Silent auction did go to Reptile Rescue. The live animal auction did not. In my defence I left the room for 5 miniutes and came back, found out that it was going on and put a stop to it. Unfortunatly not before those animals were sold.

I would like to thank everyone for their comments and concerns. Every bit of feedback will help me give everyone a better show next year.

I also want to address the vendors list for Marisa. I did not pad the list, the people that didn't come had in fact confirmed last year. I tried to contact them again closer to the show and for whatever reason did not receive another confirmation. I didn't want to have their names removed just in case they showed. I did know that their was a problem with my e-mail and some vendors could not contact me. I was not made aware of the problem until the day of the show so it was no ones fault. This has been a learning experence for me, it was the first show I had ever done. I have learned alot from it and will try my best to fix the things that need fixing.

Thanks agian for your comments;

Nadia

ROFLMAO!!! Too funny!

On another note, I have no idea why everybody is stressing over the Newmarket Expo!!?? Relax! Breathe in... and out...everything will be okay. It's done and over with. No need to bash the organizers on how "terrible" the show was. The organizers would have to be absolutely CRAZY to put on another show next year knowing there's so many negative and unsupportive people out there. It's soooo sad in my opinion and again very UNCALLED for. For a first time show it did well. That's it that's all. Some of you people need to be more understanding and realize that it does take a lot to schedule an event like this. I just feel bad for the organizers having to read this god awful thread! We're a small "reptile" community in Canada, and support is needed more than negativity to help this community grow.
I'm just shocked at some of the comments made here, and the ongoing comments regarding the Burm and the auction in the hall, what's done is done, and it wasn't nearly as bad as some are making it out to be, my goodness!
A lot of us DID have fun, talking to many people and vendors, in my opinion it was a success because of it. Success doesn't only mean how many sales you had...it can also mean how many GREAT people you met. It was a slow month for BOTH shows, people need to realize this and get on with their lives.
Just my two cents.
-Sam
