in the wake of gas prices insurance falls by the way side

i dont really care about the gas prices much i think the insurance industry is out of control tho.

here is my story ...

i drive a 91 chev cav (garbage car lol) i was paying $59 a month for insurance basic plus contents or what ever it is called.
i got my self into a little bind and had a misunderstanding with my bank and my insurance got cancelled due to non payment , no big deal my fault.

this is where it makes me really mad when i went to go get insurance on the same car my quotes were as follows $179 / month and $160 / month, my rating went from a 5 star to a 2 star because of the non payment.

when i questioned this they said that it has been prooven that people with bad credit or dont pay bills are more likely to have an accident (B.S)

why isnt the insurance that we pay based on driving record ?
also as a side note i havent had any accidents, or tickets as well

im in the process of filing a complaint with my provincial member of parliment on this issue

if anybody else has any feed back fire away

I FOR ONE THINKS THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY
ARE OUTTA CONTROL

That's crazy.

My boyfriend missed two months of insurance payments last year. The insurance cancelled him. Another month after that he goes to the same insurance company to get insurance again. Not only did he get insurance with them again, only minus one star for 6 months but he also got it CHEAPER than before! Missing his payments actually helped him. LOL.

Same here in the States. I let my insurance run out and when I went back to get insurance I was classified as "high risk" No accidents, no tickets, 38 yrs old, and I get put in the same catagory as a drunk driver Insurance is required by law though, so what do you do? Walk everywhere? They can pretty much charge whatever they want and you have to take it.

it's crazy, if you have to cancel your insurance (like having no car) you should see if you can be put on as a second driver for some one else's car

Don't tell them you keep Reptiles.. I had my insurance pulled on everything(dwelling and vehicle) several years ago, because I was stupid enough to ask if I could get coverage for my collection.
I phoned the insurance bureaux of Canada to complain and was told insurance companies are businesses. They have the right to decline policies to anyone that seems to represent a higher than average risk, by their definitions.
Herpers are higher than average risk, and so are people that default on payments no matter what the
reasons... It sucks, but such is life.
Start phoning around and get some other quotes. There's not much else you can do.

I am dealing with the insurance company right now, last year they hit me with some stupid fee for $700 because I got a new car and my old policy wasn't up on my old one..... like people never get new cars?!?!?!

I am under 25, female, not married, and drive a 2 door which makes it a "sports car"....... was paying $300/month, plus they "let" me spread the bull crap fee over a year.

Well, 2 days ago I got into an accident, they decided to write off my car (which i'm contesting), and when my policy renews in a month, I will be put upto $570 a month.

Not only did they double my insurance, but they offered me a THIRD of what it cost to buy my car as the settlement. They are thieves, plain and simple.

well i for 1 am not gonna stand by and just let them do it, im am complaining to my local MP about this, it is law to have insurance and the goverment made that law, so why can't the goverment do something to the industry.

if we dont voice our opinions and feelings to our memebers of parliment they will never know how we feel, they are aware that people are upset with the insurance industry as is so for every person that voices discontent just magnifies and already big issue.

i dont know how many times ive heard its not gonna do anything to complain, well it is not gonna do anything to stay silent either.

so if you have issues about the insurance industry or any other businesses then voice your feelings and let them be heard

Mike

Buy beater for $500, and just put liability on it. Between me and my wife we have a huge '76 impala and an '89 VW golf. We pay less than $900 per year total and we're in Alberta where insurance apparently is the highest in Canada.

The Impala passed the emissions check?

edit - added my insurance for comparison-

99 Honda Civic DX 2 Dr., Standard.
w/ 300 deductible for collision and comprehensive, 1 million liability.

130 bucks a month.

And that's with 1 speeding ticket in 10 years, no accidents, and 1 claim for dashboard replacement after an idiot with a crowbar *tried* to remove my stereo.

Insurance is outrageous. My husband wrecked our car in November 2001, had we been able to get another vehicle and transfer the insurance it would have only been $154.00 / month. Less than we were paying before the accident! Since we had no other vehicle to transfer it to and it lapsed for 2 months they started us as 2 brand new drivers with an accident to our credit and we ended up paying $310.00 / month instead. This year they wanted to rais it another $60.00 so we transfered companies since we found out that although we were supposed to have a million liability they had only given us $200,000.00. So now we have a million liability pay 350/mth we are married and both over 25yrs. Grrrrrrrr, I hate insurance companies.

Non-payment of a policy is almost as bad as an accident in the eyes of the insurance companies. It shows that you are an irresponsible person who cannot manage their own money, hence, they may also be an irresponsible driver. It sucks, I know, I had the same problem with property insurance a while back, it takes three years to clear up.

insurance is the ONE thing i would rather deal with the government for. then you can always pull the its not fair card and actually have some sort of impact possibly, or at least bitch and moan till they do something. doesnt ontario have an ICBC equivilent?

I wish ontario had government insurance...

ICBC is a crock though... some one hit my (parked) car in a parking lot, admited fault and icbc tried to claim i was 50% at fault so they wouldn't have to pay out as much.

Lisa, exactly, "No-Fault" actually means "You're both screwed".

Some idiot t-boned my work van last year when he ran the red light. Somehow they called that a "no fault" to. Fortunately for me it was the company's insurance.
