Reptile Shows

I had a call last night from an acquaintance who keeps herps to let me know about an upcoming reptile show that I am planning on going to. I've never been to one, so I'm wondering what to expect. If I was going with the intention of buying some snakes (Or even just leaving that option open), how could I be prepared? I.e., it is a three hour drive away, so I will have that drive on the way back. If you buy a pair early in the day, do you have to carry them around all day or can you generally leave them there and pick them up as you're leaving? Also, are adults often available at shows or is it mostly juveniles?

You'll find that most decent breeders will keep your purchase behind their table for the day once you have paid for it. You will more likely find captive bred young for sale rather than adults. It's not often that breeders sell their adults.

Another question: How do the sellers "package" the snakes? I'm just wondering if I would need to go all set up with enclosures in my car to put them in, or will the seller provide me with a box of some sort that will do as temporary accommodation for the day and the 3 hour drive home?

They sell snakes and lizards in deli cups. You will not have to bring an enclosure. Most are fine in the cups for the day.

You might want to bring a cooler or something similar so that you can give any new critter a dark, warm ride home.

I don't see anymore boards of reptile shows in cviewmedia.
Do you know any other site that gives this kind of info?
Or even, what happened with the cviewmedia reptile shows board?

Before i go to a show i try to stop and tell myself i'm only going to look or i'm only going to buy " Insert herp". I try to make sure i have a spare cage at home up and running before i go just incase i do bring home something new.

As said above, if you buy something they usually have them placed in deli cups and from my experince the breeders don't mind placing the animal "under the table" until your ready to leave, as long as you pay them then.

I buy a few supplies at expo's because they are normaly cheaper so even if i don't buy reptiles i'm bringing home something new.

My best advice is watch out for the Gotta-Have-It's. It's herp overload the second you walk in, so many animals, supplies, etc. that are just TOO appealing
