Heh, I'm not computer savvy at all, I learned this from a friend for I experienced the same problem. Here it is... Start, My computer, Administrative tools, component services. A window will then pop up, click on services(local). A list will then show up, scroll down and you will find "messenger". Right click it and a list of options will appear, then click properties. Another window will appear, there will be a thing called startup type, just disable it and its gone for good.

Actually its START-->CONTROL PANEL-->ADMIN TOOLS-->SERVICES.

Find messenger and right click ,then select properties. Then under startup type, disable the *******.

what antivirus are you using. I've always AVG antivirus free version to be good. Its got low overhead and is a little quicker than norton in the detection department(in my personal testing)

It's a good idea to scan a machine that you suspect is infected with more than one scanner. Not all virus patterns are in any one product. You can do free online scans at the following sites:

http://housecall.antivrus.com (run by Trend Micro, makers of PC Cillin)

and

http://pandasoftware.com
