question on a shed

Hey guys & gals,

Can anyone tell me what this shed is from? It was fresh under our back door steps... a baby garter was also hiding nearby it...

It's hard to tale but the scales from the shedding certainly would match the scales of a Garter snake.

could also be a black snake, to bad it wasnt that redtail thats been loose in the neibor hood.
