to me people spell the way they spell, i bet there a lot of things that you do that people don't like but your not going to change so way should they? well to make a long story short if it really bugs you that much don't read the forums and then you won't have to see all that. thats what i think but who cares what i have to say i'm just a nobody

Ok I have been here almost 2 yrs and I have seen some bad posts but never to that extent and please tell me why it is that we should have to please you all with our spelling anyways I am just cuious what is it your buisness anyway if we have proper grammer?
Because we're the ones who have to read it?
I've seen posts that bad, or worse. Not often, but once a blue moon a completely illegible post will appear and I need to ask the posted to reiterate because I cannot understand. Here is a REAL example:
Quote:
had my snake a month and he ate well then he shed he was in his hide most thetime getting ready to shd then when he did got real hyper five hours after he shed i fed him always have to feed him in his hide but he rarely comes out now not like before that was 8 days ago fed him again yesterday and he didnt come out all day then or today until i came home and found him on his branch he goes to his hide as soon as he sees me though and usualy im the only one that can bother him
I'm sure the guy can write with SOME sense and punctuation - it was rude of him not to use any, as a matter of fact. How are we supposed to help if we can't understand.

Quote:
And to all those who like to criticize people for spelling mistakes when posts are perfectly readable.
AGAIN, I'm not criticising people for little mistakes! I'm criticising those who write illegible posts because they are too lazy to punctuate, use real words, or correct major typos.

No doubt. What irratates me more than spelling errors are people who waste bandwidth and net space with a thread full of garbage and complaints that someone who works here for free will have to close, or take time out of their time to watch over.

Personally, I absolutely hate netspeak ( l8ter, nething, h8, 4ever). Especially with numbers, because it makes reading a post a lot slower.... probably because numbers are handled by a different part of the brain (someone please correct me if I'm wrong here, it's been awhile since I took psychology ). I have to mentally sound out the number part of the word.... and that gets very irritating in a long post. Lack of punctuation is a pain too, because you actually have to stop and think about where the natural pauses should be - run-on sentences can be as unintelligible as a foreign language sometimes. I wish everyone would at least make an ATTEMPT at punctuation.... even if it isn't totally correct, it really does help other people understand what you're trying to say. (Ditto on the all caps thing - all lowercase is okay with punctuation, but all caps is almost painful to read (especially really long posts.... I won't real them, because they actually give me a headache).

General spelling, on the other hand, isn't usually a big deal. Honest mistakes are usually still very legible. If someone spells 'their' as 'thier' or 'that' as 'taht', half of the time people won't even notice unless they're really paying attention.

Heh heh.... see, I can read this right through without a hitch and without slowing down. Take out the punctuation and translate it into netspeak, and it'd be pretty much gibberish.

As a dyslexic schoolteacher who teaches French I think I better keep my comments to myself.
I will say this though. Spelling has never been used a measure of ones intelligence.
Cheers,

"How are we supposed to help if we can't understand"

Just move on Zoe, you are not obligated to comment on every post.

"I need to ask the posted to reiterate because I cannot understand"

What type of question could possibly need an answer so bad that you have to contact the person?

a least you you got to use the word reiterate in a sentence.

I have been coming to this site for a while now and have not yet found a post that i didn't understand.
But in the begining, I had trouble with these : GTP,ETB,EDB,f/t,f/k
and a few more.

My point is, It is much easier to read a miss spelt word !!

Ok well now that I have just looked up posts from most of the people on here that have just critizied other people for using short forms and saying there lazy, go back and look at your previous posts and see how many times you all have done it your self.
Good post Jayson and thanks for pointing that point out I think maybe that can just about shut everyone up on the lazyness issue now

Wow Bring the Holiday season close and people go over the edge. I would agree with Trevor spelling does not equate intelligence. I guess it is time for another "cooking with Hip" post to lighten the mood around these parts. Hey Brian How does mock moose with mushrooms in a white wine sauce sound?
