Working out or doing ANYTHING for someone else is not a good thing. If you are overweight but happy with yourself, thats amazing and thats all that matters. What YOU think.

If someone works out HUGE and is REALLY fit and they feel good about themselves, thats also an awesome thing.

In life the people I like are the people who do things or look a certain way because thats how THEY like themselves. People who do things for others or who care about what other people think are losers IMHO. Everyone is different. Some of us are overweight, some of us are small, some of us never lift weights etc. As long as you are happy with yourself in whatever you are doing, thats what really counts IMHO.

I got into pumping iron way back in the middle of the 80's cause I wanted to play football and was too small(hey Jeff 5.0 40 at 15 years old so there) over the next ten or so years I got into power lifting and gained 100 pounds or so At my largest(dont ask me what protien shakes I drank) I weighed 260 lb or so and I stand 5'8" at that time my arms were about 21 inches or so it was not about size it was about power. In 99 I was in the best shape I had ever been in 235-240 lbs with low body fat (had a four pack and a half) I had my neck fractured in a car crash and had to stop training. I still go 225 and have kept a lot of strength from those power days, but now my joints are sore a lot. So watch out how much you lift and protect your joints and most imporant keep your hair.

There's a huge difference in being fit and adding lean muscle tissue etc etc than the type of people I was talking about. I was talking about the EXTREME people (ie juice monkeys) who would strut into training camp thinking that they owned the place, only to be gone 5 days later with cramps, muscle pulls, fatigue, etc etc. It was funny. I admire people with talent and natural ability. I don't care if you go to the gym 10 days a week and your biceps have little biceps. Vanity never sat well with me. And it never will.

I think juicing is dumb. Working with what you have is the way to go and theres nothing good about substance abuse.

My arms are 22" when flexed. I won't say what I bench because people will slander me and think i'm lying but I will say I've been power lifting for a few years.

Marisa... EVERYBODY cares what other people think. I guarantee it. You find somebody that you think doesn't care about what other people think and put them out on a deserted island and I guarantee they will act/talk/dress/eat/whatever different.

That's BS.

You are telling me that if I personally like to do something but because other people might think its lame or stupid I won't do it? Sorry that's not the kind of person I am. If you are, sucks to be you. Not me.

If I like something, I do it. I don't give a flying you know what, what anyone thinks of it. If I don't like something, I'll say I dont like it and if some doesn't agree, thats nice its their opinion.

And I have no clue what you are talking about in regards to putting someone on a desert island. Are you saying I enjoy beef because other people do? Or I enjoy wearing the color blue because someone makes it? I wear and eat and do what I LIKE. Period.

I do not hang out with people who are constantly obsessed with the trends, I do not hang out with people who live their life so other people think they are sucessful. I hang out with people who do what THEY like. If that happens to be what other people also like, thats fine. But when it comes to someone acutually caring about how they look so someone else will find them attractive, thats stupid. Don't get me wrong, we all like to look nice. But I certainly wouldn't stop dying my hair because someone else might think its stupid, or not get tattoos because some people think they are trashy. Those types of people, who are obsessed with others, are lame and losers in my eyes. They waste time being obsessed with who has what and that is sooooooo ********.

wow.....i thought we were here only to brag about our biceps....lol...on a light note of coarse....i think that people DO care what people think but its when you succumb to trying to impress others instead of yourself to make people like you then you are selling out on your life....i care what people think of me....i want people to like me...no one wants to be hated or judged.....but they better like me as i am...or else.....j/k....

well. I've heard all your whines and moans about others working out...I don't care. When I'm at the gym and I see a girl like Yve walk by...I pick up the biggest goddamn weight I can find whether I actually curl it or not...(then I go back to my 10 pound weight and curl 5 reps and grab a beer...) THAT'S a real work out routine...those kids who spend hours in a gym just to impress others....lol...lol...and...lol...

Yes that's true Yve, we all DO in fact want other people to like us, but what you mentioned is exactly how I feell.....thats fine until it turns into trying to make people like you or do something so a certain person/people will be friends with you. That's what I call being a loser.

But yes, nothing to do with biceps- mine, well I am feeble folks. LOL

I've been through it all, and I've done it all when it comes to training. Take that as you will, but I definitely see a correlation between age and fitness goals. When I was a 16 year old who weighed 153 lbs. had a decent physique, but wanted to be 'noticed' I hit the gym. I trained 5 days a week, did what I needed to do to become huge. Vanity. I went from 153 to 265 in 4 years. Vanity. Being looked at by the girls and admired by the guys anywhere I went was a great ego-booster. I was benching 335 for reps. My muscles had their own muscles. Why did I want to work out? The answer was simple. Girlies like muscles, it felt good to be in shape, but teh real reason was skirt. And their wasn't a nightclub that I went to that I didn't wear a skin-tight top or NO top to show it all off. It was fun. I had fun, I hope they had fun. You know what? As the years went by, the gym took a backseat to a life. A wife, kids, a house, a good job. Now, at 28, if I hit the gym, it's to be able to stave off a heart attack. Gone is the six-pack, replaced with a whole 2-4. I don't go to the gym for vanity anymore, if I go, it's not to bench 335. It's for personal health. Gaining weight isn't the problem like it was when I was 16, it's keeping it off that's the pisser now. Attitudes change, and for whatever reason you decide to begin an excercise regimen, be it Pilates, Powerlifting, weight training, circuit training, cardio, Tai che for that matter; do it for yourself. There's no better reason.

That's a GREAT post mykee. Damn, I always like your posts. You don't talk ANY bull. Cut right to the chase. We could use a lot more people like you in this industry. For sure. Even if we have differing opinions (which is rare), I always respect what you have to say and I always seem to read your posts twice, just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Good stuff bro!
