Snakes send students from county school

http://www.starkvilledailynews.com/a...ews/news01.txt

Some of the article:

"East Oktibbeha Elementary students will stay home from school today and until further notice after snake infestation problems reached a breaking point between school officials and parents Wednesday.

The parents want something done quickly to protect the students from being bitten by the slithery intruders.

Oktibbeha County School District Supt. Walter Conley said parents should make arrangements to keep their children at home today as exterminators and experts with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to assess the snake situation at the school.

Parents received a letter after school on Wednesday informing the parents that the school would not open to students today and to stay tuned to local media outlets for information about when students may return to school.

Conley said he has been working with Principal James Covington since the first sighting of a snake three weeks ago at the rural school, which is located on 16th Section Road. Covington said there have been two incidents where a snake entered the school, one three weeks ago and another on Monday.

"The snakes were small and they were not poisonous and no children were harmed. It really wasn't that big of a problem and it seemed like it was an isolated incident in both cases." said Covington. "We are trying to find out where they are coming from, or if students have somehow brought them into the school."

These parents must be insane right? I mean seriously, who has nothing better to do than FREAK out because two harmless, non venemous snakes were spotted in a school? I really hope I have something better to do when I am a mother.

some parents are completely irrational. i really hope they don't do something crazy, like go on a snake-murdering rampage. It's sad though, because when adults act like that towards snakes, they start to train their kids to be afraid of them, too.

It's too bad the animals can't react to us the way we react to them.

Angry

I can't believe some of those uneducated parents out there. Its so sad. I'm glad my family doesn't have much of a problem with *any* wildlife.

Man, I really hate it when people have nothing better to do than overreact. All that over two harmless little snakes?

HAHAHA! So well-said. The world would be different...humans'd be a lot less arrogant, perhaps...

I'd like to see the snakes call in the bears and the lions to take care of the pesky parents.

Bloody stupid. And they just say "snakes" in this article. They don't even attempt to identify which type of snakes they are, but hey, they're legless. They're snakes. They're dangerous. Keep your kids away.

Spare me.
