They did What?!!!

Yep its real who else wants to get in on the "Black Market" Barbie?

Saudi religious police campaign against 'Jewish' Barbie
By THE JERUSALEM POST INTERNET STAFF

Barbie
(Mattel Inc.)
Saudi Arabia's religious police have declared Barbie dolls a threat to morality, complaining that the revealing clothes of the "Jewish" toy - already banned in the kingdom - are offensive to Islam.

The Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, as the religious police are officially known, lists the dolls on a section of its Web site devoted to items deemed offensive to the conservative Saudi interpretation of Islam.

"Jewish Barbie dolls, with their revealing clothes and shameful postures, accessories and tools are a symbol of decadence to the perverted West. Let us beware of her dangers and be careful," said a message posted on the site.

A spokesman for the Committee said the campaign against Barbie - banned for more than 10 years - coincides with the start of the school year to remind children and their parents of the doll's negative qualities.

Speaking to The Associated Press by telephone from the holy city of Medina, he claimed that Barbie was modeled after a real-life Jewish woman.

Although illegal, Barbies are found on the black market, where a contraband doll could cost $27 or more.

In May, the watchdog group Middle East Media Research Institute wrote that the religious police Web site showed a photo of several Barbie dolls.

The group, which translates Arabic media, also translated this text from the Web site:

"The enemies of Islam want to invade us with all possible means, and therefore they have circulated among us this doll, which spreads deterioration of values and moral degeneracy among our girls."

With the photo of Baarbie, under the heading "The Jewish Doll," was a story titled "The Strange Request."

The story reads: "One girl said to her mother: 'Mother, I want jeans and a shirt open at the top, like Barbie's!!' The dolls of the Jewish Barbie in her naked garb [sic], their disgraceful appearance, and their various accessories are a symbol of the dissolution of values in the West. We must fully comprehend the danger in them."

Barbie owner Mattel Inc. declined comment.

The creator of Barbie was Ruth Handler, who with her husband Elliot, co-founded Mattel. Barbie was named after the Handler's daughter, Barbie. Handler was the daughter of Polish Jewish immigrants to the United States, and was brought up in a Yiddish-speaking household in Denver, Colorado.

According to the Web site characterproducts.com, Ruth Handler was inspired by three smutty "Lilli" dolls she picked up in Europe in 1957. The Lilli dolls were modeled after a character in a German comic strip. Lilli was not a baby doll like most other dolls on the market in the 1950s. Lilli had a well developed, curvaceous body, a tiny waistline, and wore skimpy, tight clothes.

After watching her daughter Barbie play with adult paper dolls, Ruth Handler decided to create a doll that would "project every little girl's dream of the future."

According to Mattel, more than 1 billion Barbie dolls (and family members) have been sold since 1959 in more than 140 countries. Barbie is the best-selling fashion doll in almost every global market, with worldwide annual sales of $1.5 billion.

I used to work as a Professional International Mover. It was always a pain when People went to the Mid-East. Our Job was to Pack their belongings, and screen stuff out that the religous police would see as contraband. Some stuff less contraversal than Barbie dolls. For example, childrens books dealing with easter, holloween, christmasmost movies above a pg rating, kids movies like sleeping beauty, snowwhite, little mermaid..list goes on and on. and yes when movies and books come in to that region, they have people paid to translate and read all books, and watch all movies....craziness

Typical bloody Wahabbi puritans. They make me sick. These guys like to blame the Jews for everything but i never thought they would end up assigning a religion to Barbie to make her their enemy lol.

I could never really understand how childish some people can be about things like that. I know that they are raised with hatrid and all, but everyone is human, and there must be a time in their life where they actually do question how ridicule they can act on things?!

LOL I have a feeling these wankers would be perfectly ok with a "JIHAD JOE" doll. "Hey kids.. press this button and make Jihad Joe blow up then snap his limbs back on and do it all over again!"

Lolol,

I am sure the do make wooden ones but never showed us when they burned them.

I have to read those books you mentioned. It intrigues me how they got to really hate each other a this point. I know a part of the story (the usa that gave back the land to the jews.... and all but the hatrid came from way before, that only added oil to the fire).

True Colonel. I live in canada too, and would never go else where (well except maybe Australia to get reptiles in my back yard all the time)... :-p

I also watche dbowling for columbine this week. And some parts of what he talks about actually do get you to think about how we act as humans. Damn we are far from being perfect, and we should stop thinking we are better than others....

Wahabbis are like the Puritans in a way. They have a very harsh and narrow interpretation of Islam. They don't like being called Wahabbi and refer to themselves as "Salafi". It all really started with this bloke named Abdul Wahab back in Arabia some centuries ago. His own father and brother who were respected Islamic scholars preached against Abdul Wahab's distorted interpretation of Islam. Anyway, Abdul Wahab managed to get quite a few followers and caused a lot of trouble and his people banded with the Sa'ud family. When the Sa'ud clan came to power and oil was discovered on their territory they all became extremely rich and powerful and were able to export this Wahabbi version of Islam globally by funding the building of mosques, publishing Islamic literature which had a very harsh interpretation and appointing Imams (leaders of the mosque) that had a Wahabbi mentality.

Anyway, that is a very very condensed version of where these people come from. If you want to get a better picture then do check out those 2 books I recommended. I'm not a model muslim but I hate to see my religion dragged down to the gutter by these Wahabbi mofos.

I agree that Canada is the best country there is but would we really miss Barbie that much? It's the commercialism in the West that takes the place of racist and religious hate in the East. People die from both but suicide bombers are better for TV than Chinese sweat shops and our homegrown prison labour. It's clear that both cultures kill but the interesting thing is that the West is responsible for much of the trouble in the East. It goes back to the end of WWII. (started by Germany remember). Instead of giving the Jews a significant portion of Germany to make up for what was stolen from them the Allies handed them a piece of desert without asking the Arabs that lived there and it's been a total gangf*ck ever since. The real irony is that now Germany is one of the 5 richest countries on earth and Israel gets blasted with teenage suicide bombers. Sounds like a fair deal eh?
