That sucks Brian! Sorry to hear it... only things I can think of are temperature and stress...

If the temp isnt high enough he maybe wasnt digesting properly and was ditching his meal

Also, I have come across some snakes that just dont like being in certain enclosures too (usually glass... they feel too exposed and get similar symptoms to what you described). They are too stressed out so they regurgitate similar to when you try to handle a snake too soon after a feeding (I tend to notice albinos of any snake species are a little more on the nervous side... perhaps they know they are easy targets for predation??)

Take care bud

Some hatchlings just wont eat. I have had clutches of eggs were most will eat right away but a few just wont eat at all. Sorry about your little guy.

So sorry to hear that. It is very frustrating to lose one so nice, especially after having worked with it. Sorry I don't have any suggestions beyond passing on the info that it is important to allow at least 10 - 14 days after a regurg before attempting another feeding to give the gut time to recover and rebuild. Not based on my experience with hatchlings - but trusted sources and I applied it with one 4 month old corn that was having regurg problems - seemed to help - he straightened out. It gets to be a long time to wait with hatchlings little ones are wasting away though.

sorry you lost him,

mary v.

Sorry the little guy passed. Unfortunately though, not ALL snakes were meant to survive, even in captivity where the odds are improved, some still go. There may have been some internal underdevlopements or other things happening as well.

I tried multiple enclosures. First was a glass aquarium, aspen substrate with lots of greenery, temp variance 76 - 84f and 2 hides.
The second enclosure was a 62.5 L tub in a rack system. Aspen substrate, 2 hides. Temp avg. 83.
Always kept in a low traffic area in my basement.
I have never had such an extream case with a milk snake.
Cost me a bunch too.

I'm with Linds on underveloped innards, the cause of his regurgitation might be b/c he didn't have a fully developed GI tract. I know that happens in several animals and there just isn't anything you can do about it.

I can't say I agree with the prognosis. The breeder i acquired the animal from had the animal since Oct 2002 (hatch date)and claimed he was feeding it 1 pinkie per week but kept no records because he has to many animals. When I got him, he was 7 grams.
