Saving space

I was looking at all the people on this site, and I think you guys might be able to save some space by deleting some accounts. Some people have been on for a long time and have never posted once. If you, say... deleted everyone who has never posted and has had an account for at least a year, then you could save a lot of space. Let me know what you think. Just a suggestion. ~TR~

i have noticed the same thing. People register and only post one or two questions or none at all. Get rid of them and if they come back they can just re-register. Although i dont know how much space an account takes up, especially a none active one that doesnt have to keep track of their posts

...

Yeah, but how much "space" does a single account actually take up? 50k? A meg? Is it worth it?

I don't think that's fair. They may only have a few things to say but it might be something everyone should know.

Just because people don't post doesn't mean they don't benefit from being members on the site. There are very different levels of comfort with interaction on web forums, and while this is a particularly welcoming one, many people may be more comfortable with reading posts and learning than with being an active member. People have different objectives and different ways of interacting on line just as they do in person. I am a member of other sites where I rarely post, but I would hate to be removed from them because I do visit them to learn.

just my opinion,

mary v.

You can still read posts if you aren't a member. I don't know how much space an account takes up, but there are quite a few of these people. I think most of the time it's not a case of people just reading the posts, but people who think they want to join, and then make an account and forget all about the site. But again, its just a suggestion. ~TR~

This will make all the people who only read posts make up pointless posts so that they dont get deleted off the site. I agree with coy and oliverian. You can still learn a lot by reading everyones questions. Doesnt mean you have to post questions yourself. I dont think a couple of dead acounts is a big deal...

...I'm slightly confused now. But anyways.. There are actually quite a few dead accounts. Go check out the 'Members' link, it looks like almost half of the people on this site have dead accounts. I think you can read posts without being a member. I did that for quite a while before deciding to join. I'm not trying to cause an argument, I was just offering a suggestion to help the people who run the site mabye save a little bandwidth and money. (if using less space means less money... I dont really know about that kind of thing) Just a suggestion. ~TR~

Well said Mary

If your not a member, you can still view posts, but you will never be able to know what ones are new and so forth because they will all be "new".

i think i came across wrong in my first post.
i didnt mean ones that still frequent the forums, even if they arent posting. The system knows when you sign on. i meant people who havent been on for like over a year. kinda like hotmail.com..if you dont use your account for X amound of time, it gets deactivated.
I certainly dont mean that after a few months if you dont post your gone, i just mean if you havent even logged on in years .
but as i said b4, i dont know how much space it really takes.
