Can anyone identify this pretty snake

I saw it today in lake chauncy in westborough, MA. There were 2 of them.

Ya, Nerodia for sure. Water snakes swim with just their head out of the water, any other type of snake swims with their whole body at least partially above the surface. They have a reputation for being bad-tempered snakes, but in my experience they're no different than most wild snakes.

They are definitely spicy snakes. The bites (at least of the small ones) aren't very painful though. I'd still rather a bite over getting musked...
