i am wondering what temperatures and humidity are dummerils are kept at some care sheets say high 85 and low 77 and 20% humidity other say 90 high 77 low 40 to 60 %humidity .what should i put this cage at my 4 ft 3 ft 2 ft cage is currently at 86 hot and about 71 or 72 cold what could i do to bring up the temperture ??
i try to keep the ambient temperature around 80 degrees or so with a surface basking spot of 88-90. i find that they have a greater feeding response at this temp range rather than keeping them a little cooler. the humidity is not too much of a concern to me because i have noticed that they have perfect sheds even at a very low humidity level but i would say that 50-60% would be fine if youre looking for a guide. also give em a hide on the warm and cool end of the enclosure and a nice substrate such as aspen mulch so they can burrow under it.
what type of enclosure are you using now and what are you using to heat it?
as long as the heat mat is controlled by a thermostat and the heat bulb inside the enclosure is inaccessible to the snake then your good.
if your ambient temperature is a little low then you can bump it up by going with a higher wattage bulb. again though, just make sure that the bulb is protected so that your snake cannot get to it.
If it's that low, you may just need a 100w light bulb. If you use a light intended for basking, it will be more efficient than say, a normal incandescent bulb.
