Thumbs down Boa tub heating

Yes Iím new here, I have a 5 month old hypo boa. So my issue is heating now that itís getting colder where I live. I had her in a glass tank this summer and everything was good untill it got cold. I tried everything and couldnít keep the temp and humidity both up so she was moved to a tub a few days ago. Sheís still settling in good it seems but my temps are lower than they should be. I have a uth on 1/3 of the bottom of the tub(3 1/2x 1 1/2x 1). The thermostat is under the bedding in the tank at 89 degrees. Iím mainly having trouble with the air temps only being mid 70s on the warm side and 71ish on the cool side. The humidity is also kind of high but Her water is half on the uth so it will be moved. So after reading everything I can find I would really not like to run my house that warm all winter. I was thinking of putting another uth and a thermostat on the cool side, maybe set at 78ish to raise the temp on that side and maybe the ambient of the hole tub. Iíve also moved the tub into the warmest room in my house. May have to down size water bowl as well. I got a shallow tub to hold heat better. My house is cold and winter isnít even all the way here yet. Itís an older house and poorly insulated. Any help would be great. I also have a heating ceramic light and a thermostat but I wasnít sure how to safely screen the tub lid for the heat.

Re: Boa tub heating

If you have a thermostat you can set it higher than 89 degrees? Try 92. See how it goes.

I don't really worry about my air temp too much as long as my surface temps are okay. The snake will seek out what it needs.

Re: Boa tub heating

Alright Iíll turn it up some. Wasnít sure how high to go, you see a lot of people say different temperatures. She is still hanging out on the cool side so she must not be to cold. Thanks for the reply.

The temperature of the heating element is less important than the enclosure temp.

Re: Boa tub heating

I always used a ceramic heat emitter on my boas vivarium. I know it's harder to do with a tub but a heavy snake is better off with over head heat I believe than a heat mat were he or she could cause a very hot spot on a mat.

Re: Boa tub heating

Ambient temps in the low 70's aren't a problem at all imo. My nighttime temps temps even drop into the upper 60's during the winter. I keep my boas hot spots around 86-88. My humidity ranges from 35-65% depending on the season.
