Plastic shoeboxes are small enough that you put them right inside the tank, then plop the beardie in with the crix. Believe me, if the crix are in there first, they don't seem to mind! If your cage is too small to fit a plastic shoebox in, then it's really too small for a beardie.

The beardie can climb out of the box when he's done eating but the sides are too slippery for the crix to climb.
