Darren, I am sorry for your lose. That IS a lot to take in. If I were you, I would threaten (not necessarily follow up on, unless no action is taken) to pursue criminal damages. In some places if you lose breeding or show animals to an event similar to this you can estimate the losses from the breeding animals' annual litters/clutches (say your snake has about 10 babies a year, every year, and you typically sell them for $50.00 each, you can estimate how many clutches you could have profited from, had the accident not occured). This individual needs to be responsible for his pet, as I am sure you are about yours. It's a shame this guy hasn't given you ANYHTING yet. Keep us updated on what happens.
